The species is endemic to the islands of the Aldabra Atoll in the Seychelles. It is one of the largest tortoises in the world. So happy to work on this one. It was on my wishlist for a couple of years. These giant tortoises outlive people and even the stuff we create. Therefor we situated this one in the ruins of what could have been a temple from long gone ages.

Note: It is fitted with a little light inside the roof to accentuate this magnificent old beast.

Price: SOLD

Dimensions:
L: 55 cm D: 28 cm H: 97 cm
L: 21.65 in. D: 11.02 in. H: 38.19 in.

We found this beautiful ornament years ago in a London antique shop. We immediately thought ‘Owls!’ But had to wait for four years to collect the right species that matched the measurements of this of woodwork perfectly. In the centre we sculpted a Spotted eagle owl. This is the smallest of the eagle owl family and is originally from Africa. This species is known for their ‘earfeathers’ that stand out pretty far. On the other parts of the tower, we placed three pygmy owls. Because of their size we created them in ‘showing off’ poses to be able to fight for attention with the much larger Spotted eagle owl. Altogether there is a great harmony in this classical ensemble.

Price: SOLD

Dimensions:
L: 17 cm D: 26 cm H: 55 cm
L: 6.69 in. D: 10.24 in. H: 21.65 in.

This bird of prey is not kept in captivity very often. Although they are not threatened in the wild, they are very hard to find with the right paperwork that enables you to own a species like this. This one was born in captivity and has the right papers of course. The Yellow headed caracara is one of the few animals that actually benefits from the deforestation in South America. They used to eat insects from tropical mammals like the Tapirs and Sloths and Capibara’s. But because lots of forest is now changed into cattle ground they now have millions of cows to eat from. This changed their status from being ‘rare’ into ‘common’. Therefor for this work we gave him a large prey in its beak. More than he can eat. It is a Spiny-tailed Lizard. So, is it really a treat?

LAUGHING KOOKABURA
(Dacelo novaeguineae)

Price: SOLD

Dimensions:
L: 28 cm D: 18 cm H: 40 cm
L: 11.02 in. D: 7.09 in. H: 15.75 in.

What is not to like about this beautiful bird. It even laughs. They are the largest species from the kingfisher family, and they live in the eastern part of Australia. Kookaburras have a cheeky character. Not shy at all. That probably adds to their likability. To make him even more endearing we created this one as fluffy as possible. He is challenging you to pet him.

THE GHOST OF THE MOUNTAINS
Snow Leopard Skeleton (Panthera uncia)

Price: SOLD
Dimensions:

L: 187 cm x W: 44 cm x H: 66 cm
L: 73.6 in. x W: 17.3 in. x H: 26 in.

A truly priceless piece of natural history. A real skeleton of a Snow Leopard. Often referred to as ‘the ghost of the mountain’. They are seldom seen by humans. Because they are rare and because they live were most people will never come; The Himalaya’s and other higher parts of Asia.
We were fortunate and had a chance to obtain a skeleton that is complete and in tact. It came from a zoo in Eastern Europe where it was part of a breeding program to preserve this wonderful member of the Panthera family.
We decided to create a work that honours that local nickname ‘Ghost of the Mountain’. We experimented with different ways of colouring the bones and found a recipe to create a deep black colour with a bronze glow to it. And we mounted the bones in a traditional Victorian way. With brass rods and wires. Over 650 pieces form a majestic animal skeleton on a Marble and 18th century oak base. An absolute highlight of the Darwin, Sinke & van Tongeren 2018 Collection.

This Snow Leopard comes with CITES papers.

L: 9.84 in. D: 9.06 in. H: 21.26 in.

To have one Cock of the Rock is a collector’s dream. Imagine having a male/female set. This species is part of the Cotingidae family. A collection of the weirdest colourful birds from the tropical forest in South America. (If you are not familiar with them it is worth googling them.) This specific species is called the Andean Cock of the rock. This is the one with the smallest habitat in the wild. They are also the national birds of Peru.
As you can see the male Cock of the rock is much more colourful than the female but don’t they make a dream couple here as a set?

Dimensions Work:
Ø base: 32 cm / 12.6 in.
L: 25 cm D: 25 cm H: 71 cm

Dimensions Dome:
Ø: 39 cm H: 80 cm
Ø: 15.35 in. H: 31.5 in.

The Ural Owl is a very strong species of owls. It is also referred to as the Russian Owl. This owl hunts under harsh circumstances. Either it is the extreme colds in winter, or it is the lack of darkness during the northern summers. Because this owl is fearless we gave him a Black Mamba as a prey in this composition. The Black mamba is known for its ‘Kiss of Death’. A bite that injects enough poison to kill 20 adult humans.

Titel: INFERNO EQUUS

Price: SOLD
Dimensions:
H 160 cm W 140 cm D 100 cm

A mysterious composition of war horses on a burned antique base. This work, part of the TIER exhibit at MOA Museum, was exhibited with a painting of Dutch artist Armando. This painting, called 'Waldstuck 7-6-99', was saved from the fire in Armando's previous museum in Amersfoort, the Netherlands. The horses, who have antique cannonballs for eyes, seemed to galop into this dark burned forrest. One of the horses stands out because of his special manes that are curled like the wigs of 17th century french generals and notables.
