SPECTACLED OWL & SNAKE
(Pulsatrix perspicillata)
Price: € 12.000,- excl. VAT
Dimensions Dome:
Ø: 38 cm H: 60 cm
Ø: 14.96 in. H 23.62 in.
The Spectacled owl is the largest owl to be found in the dense tropical rainforests of South America. It will eat everything that moves and is not too heavy to fly away with. It will eat monkeys even. We thought it would make an interesting composition to feed him a very large snake that curls around him. It makes the work attractive from all angles and it also interacts with the twisted marble base he is sitting on.

TOWER OF STRIGIFORMES
Price: € 25.000,- excl. VAT
Dimensions:
L: 55 cm D: 28 cm H: 97 cm
L: 21.65 in. D: 11.02 in. H: 38.19 in.
We found this beautiful ornament years ago in a London antique shop. We immediately thought ‘Owls!’ But had to wait for four years to collect the right species that matched the measurements of this of woodwork perfectly. In the centre we sculpted a Spotted eagle owl. This is the smallest of the eagle owl family and is originally from Africa. This species is known for their ‘earfeathers’ that stand out pretty far. On the other parts of the tower, we placed three pygmy owls. Because of their size we created them in ‘showing off’ poses to be able to fight for attention with the much larger Spotted eagle owl. Altogether there is a great harmony in this classical ensemble.

YELLOW HEADED CARACARA
(Milvago chimachima)
Price: SOLD
Dimensions:
L: 17 cm D: 26 cm H: 55 cm
L: 6.69 in. D: 10.24 in. H: 21.65 in.
This bird of prey is not kept in captivity very often. Although they are not threatened in the wild, they are very hard to find with the right paperwork that enables you to own a species like this. This one was born in captivity and has the right papers of course. The Yellow headed caracara is one of the few animals that actually benefits from the deforestation in South America. They used to eat insects from tropical mammals like the Tapirs and Sloths and Capibara’s. But because lots of forest is now changed into cattle ground they now have millions of cows to eat from. This changed their status from being ‘rare’ into ‘common’. Therefor for this work we gave him a large prey in its beak. More than he can eat. It is a Spiny-tailed Lizard. So, is it really a treat?

LAUGHING KOOKABURRA
(Dacelo novaeguineae)
Price: € 7.500,- excl. VAT
Dimensions:
L: 28 cm D: 18 cm H: 40 cm
L: 11.02 in. D: 7.09 in. H: 15.75 in.
What is not to like about this beautiful bird. It even laughs. They are the largest species from the kingfisher family, and they live in the eastern part of Australia. Kookaburras have a cheeky character. Not shy at all. That probably adds to their likability. To make him even more endearing we created this one as fluffy as possible. He is challenging you to pet him.

Title: QUOTING CHARLES DARWIN I
Price: € 120.000,- excl. VAT
Dimensions:
L: 320 cm D: 80 cm H: 130 cm
L: 126 in. D: 31.3 in. H: 51.2 in.
This monumental work is inspired on the famous quote of Darwin.
“If everyone were cast in the same mould, there would be no such thing as beauty.” It is because of this quote that we added Darwin to our name Darwin, Sinke & van Tongeren. This quote also fits our goal to do all our taxidermy work without the use of factory moulds that are typical for contemporary taxidermy.
We sculpt all our bodies by hand and therefor can create the unique poses like how they line up in this mayor work. We combined many different birds with many different features from many different points of the compass. Together they form a 17th Century like composition of colours and poses. This collection varies from the rare African Congo Peafowl and a gracious Stanley Crane to a regular Dutch chicken.
Quoting Charles Darwin I is one
of the largest works in the DSvT history.
Species in this work are:
Crested Partridge, White Peafowl, Three Duck Chicks, Stanley Crane, Brahma Chicken, White Crested Chicken, Emu Chick, Southern Screamer, Congo Peafowl, Himalayan Monal & Mute Swan.

Title: KING OF THE MUSEUM
(Crocodylus niloticus)
Price: € 200.000,- excl. VAT
Dimensions:
L: 470 cm D: 83 cm H: 90 cm
L: 185 in. D: 32.68 in. H: 13.8 in.
Since we started, we always wanted to make a very large crocodile. Wishful thinking, we thought it was. But now we were able to do so. We were lucky we could obtain a Nile crocodile of 5 meters. 5 meters! We were lucky since very large crocodiles are normally not kept at Zoos. So, to find one that died of natural causes outside a Zoo was more or less impossible. This crocodile died of old age a very long time ago when it was the breeding stallion at a luxury bag manufacturers breeding facility. After his long productive life, it finally died. In honour of its contribution to the company they had it preserved as a rug and it featured the office of the director of this firm. It stayed there for decades. It was their icon. When we were able to buy it, it was already antique.
The last two years we worked on this amazing creature to recreate it into a 3D crocodile again.
It hangs from brass chains at the ceiling and it is wrapped in hemp ropes that we dyed a dark coral red. We were fortunate to have help from a female Shibari or Hojōjutsu expert from Japan (the art of binding a prisoner of war) to create this wonderful structure that holds him. Between its impressive jaws is a sceptre. A nod to the royal Wunderkammers.
It comes with CITES paperwork that enables you to legally own it. This in itself is unique for a crocodile of this magnitude. This paperwork proves the animal came not from the wild and therefor can be legally owned and traded.

Toucans are very high on everybody’s list. They are spectacular. The most colourful toucan by far is the Keel-billed Toucan. These bright colours on its beak are breath taking. But after mounting and tanning the colours usually fade away into brown. That’s why we colour them by hand with a variety of different paints to create the layers that would originally show.
